With an "invitation" to the Butterfly Ball tipped in to the work.
Aldridge is best known for his psychedelic artwork, featured in record covers for The Beatles and The Who. These picture books are collaboration works with illustrator Harry Willock.
This set contains:
The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshoppers Feast (1973) - Loosely based on the poem of the same name by William Roscoe, written in 1802 and telling the story of a party for insects and other small animals.
Aldridges version focuses more on the animals preparations for the Ball. With verses by William Plomer.
The Peacock Party (1979) - The sequel to The Butterfly Ball, with verses written with George E. Ruder. Based on the poem The Peacock At Home by A Lady, written in 1807.
CONDITION
In the original laminated boards. Externally, excellent with shelf wear, heavier to The Peacock Party. Handling marks to the spine of Butterfly Ball. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean.
