This collection of issues contains No. 1 Sept. 4th, 1915, No. 2 Sept. 18th 1915, No. 3 Oct. 16th 1915, No. 4 Nov. 6th 1915, No. 5 Nov. 27th 1915, No. 6 Christmas 1915 with the Christmas supplement.
The Lead-Swinger was the magazine or trench journal of the West Riding Field Ambulance produced in manuscript at the time, with copies brought back to England where they were printed and bound for distribution to members of the Field Ambulance.
Each volume contains a collection of anecdotes from the First World War, with shared information as well as humorous stories, jokes, sketches, verses and poems written by the members of the 1/3 West Riding Field Ambulance.
Originally produced on the Western Front of the War, the articles were written and the sketches drawn in the trenches, the dressing station or the field hospital. With details of the contributors, mostly recorded as pseudonyms.
CONDITION
In the original quarter cloth binding. Externally, sound with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine with light tide marks to the board edges. The odd small mark to the boards with small splits in the cloth to the joints. Front free endpaper detached. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with light scattered spotting and the odd small handling mark. Minor tide marks to the edges of the odd page. Ink inscription to the front pastedown.
